BIO* H277 - Ecology of New England Credits: 3 This course is based on the science of ecology. It will investigate the physical and biological aspects of inland aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems found in Southern New England. Biome distribution, biogeochemical cycles, productivity, energy flow, life history adaptations, population dynamics, and community interactions will be quantitatively examined within a cross-cutting framework of evolution. Student observation journals for a local ecosystem and a team video research presentation are required. The optional laboratory course (BIO*H278) will utilize the campus forest, pond, and nearby wetlands. This course is open to biology majors and non-majors. Ecology fulfills the Educational Common Core Scientific Knowledge requirement.
Prerequisite(s): 1 semester Biology laboratory course (BIO*H105, BIO*H115, BIO*H127, BIO*H121, BIO*H122, BIO*H145, BIO*H155) & MAT*H136/137 with C or better & ENG*H101 Lecture Hours: 3
