BIO* H262 - Genetics & Lab Credits: 4 This course is designed to cover the basic concepts of genetics including the theory of chromosomal inheritance, classical Mendelian inheritance, principles of human genetics, the genetic code, the role of nucleic acids in gene expression, genetic mutations, population genetics and topics in modern genetics in areas such as epigenetics, recombinant DNA, biotechnology, gene mapping and diagnosis of human genetic diseases. Students will develop and master good laboratory practices and safe handling skills while completing laboratory investigations including genetic crosses, molecular diagnostic techniques, and calculating genetic variation in populations.
Prerequisite(s): BIO* H105 or BIO* H115 or BIO* H155 or BIO* H121 or BIO*H225 or permission of Division Dean. Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 3
